If you are looking to feel refreshed in the morning and get your sleep back on board, read more on how.

Do you feel that no matter what you try, you still can’t sleep? Well, you aren’t alone.

There are many who struggle to get sleep. Whether it is due to stress, thoughts, or just because, it can be frustrating. No one likes waking up tired, right?

Cut out the caffeine

Some of you may not think you consume caffeine before bed, however, caffeine is hidden everywhere. If you are someone who drinks caffeine on a daily, this could impact your sleeping pattern too.

If you are drinking over 3 cups of coffee or tea and still consuming hidden caffeine, this will affect how soon you can fall asleep at night. This could also explain symptoms such as:

  • Mood swings
  • Headaches
  • Anxiety
  • Increased stress
  • Muscle aches

Getting rid of the caffeine or cutting it down, may be one thing that could help you fall asleep naturally.

Go to bed earlier

If you know that you won’t go to bed till you’ve caught up on your favourite tv series, go to bed earlier! Its fine to wind down in the evening, but sometimes we may get too attached to our favourite series and this could stop us sleeping.

So, put that remote away and go to bed at least an hour earlier than usual to allow your mind to rest and fall asleep naturally.

Fix up your diet

What we consume throughout the day can really impact how we feel. If you are consuming processed foods on a regular basis, it may be time to clean up your diet.

Not only will focusing on your diet improve your overall health, but it will reduce the feelings of restlessness at night. Due to the hidden sugars in carbs and dairy, this can impact our thoughts at night and prevent us from getting our 8 hours sleep.

Why not try adding these foods in your diet:

  • wholegrains
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • 2-4 litres of water
  • Herbal teas

Practice mindfulness before bed

When it bed, it may be useful to practice being mindful and meditate. There are many videos and playlists that be found online that will guide you through the process.

Meditation before bed will assist in clearing your thoughts and allow you to fall asleep naturally.

Some of our favourite meditation apps are:

  • Calm
  • Headspace
  • Buddhify

Meditating will also allow you to wake up feeling more refreshed and more focused throughout the day, so why not give it a try?

Although it may seem difficult at first, making a few changes could help you get that rested nights sleep. Some of us need to change our mentality and be positive. Thinking ‘I can’t fall asleep before midnight’, will not help you when making changes. Remain positive and focused and the little changes will add up.
