In a life where there are many up and downs for each and every one of us, it sometimes can be very difficult to always think and be positive. There are many situations, at different times in our lives where negativity can get the better of us. Most of us have the capability to end negative thinking easily, however, some of us struggle with this – perhaps the issue is more severe or it’s a build-up of emotions.
Negative thinking has been linked to depression, mood changes, weight gain and other stress-related illnesses, which in the long-run may affect your health. Positive thinking is therefore vital, it has the ability to improve your mood, give you a boost in confidence and a general feeling of contentedness. To help you think more positively or to give you a boost of positivity we have listed five clever ways of doing so.
Starting the day right can have many benefits. From the moment you wake up, you have the opportunity to make the best out of your day. Putting the radio on or putting on your favourite ‘feel-good’ music on can be very rewarding and bring you a lot of joy. Turn the music on loud and get ready while listening to great music. Try to get up twenty minutes early so you can make yourself a nutritious breakfast to avoid any hunger or fatigue. You are bound to be positive for the remainder of the day.
We are all guilty of getting caught up in negative thoughts, try to find the good aspects of the issue or emotion instead. This could be helpful to allow you to see it from another perspective and rethink your emotions. Finding a pastime in these situations can be a good way to distract yourself; take the book you have been wanting to read, listen to your favourite podcast or go to the Gym. There is plenty of things you can do to not allow yourself to fall into the trap of negativity.
Most of us will have certain friends or a special someone who makes you feel really good about yourself. Surround yourself with those who make you feel amazing and appreciate you for the way you are. Being encircled by colleagues, or friends that seem to make your negative thoughts worse or upset you regularly, should have no place in your life. Get rid of the people that drag you down as soon as possible, and the positivity will return in your life.
Meditation has been proven to have excellent benefits for us; they include increased focus, reducing stress, improving sleep, and it can increase productivity within the workplace. Take out 5 or 10 minutes a day to meditate to let your body and mind settle to get maximum stress-relief and positivity throughout your life.
If you have a high-pressure job role or a lot of stress in your life it is important that you can release this stress. Exercising is a great way of doing so; try to take a gym class before or after work, have a weight session or go for a run. Either one will be able to release stress, to ensure that you feel positive and confident about yourself.
