If only life was like the movies, and everything falls into place just in the nick of time. As we all know, that’s not how it works! Life throws you challenges left, right and centre, and that’s the beauty of it! Overcoming obstacles and pushing yourself brings out the best in you.

So, what’s holding you back from reaching your full potential? We all have different goals that come with various obstacles to overcome, but if you keep the right mindset and follow our advice, you’re destined for greatness.

Welcome change

Whether we like it or not, life is full of changes. So why not make the best of it and embrace it? If you want to take the first steps to reaching your full potential, accept that things are going to change and realise you cannot remain stagnant in life and make advancements. Look at change as a new opportunity to push yourself into something better, learn information, viewpoints, ideas and possibilities.

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable

Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone comes hand-in-hand with change. When we push ourselves to do something we may not think we can do, reaching the finish line is so much sweeter! And we grow so much along the way - meeting new people, opening doors that may not have been there before, and bringing out sides of yourself that you didn’t know where there! Open yourself up to hard decisions and uncomfortable situations and opportunities will come flooding in.

Set goals

Setting goals that you can strive for on a daily basis is going to help you take the initial plunge into the next stage of your life. To do this, look at the big picture and where you want to end up, then incorporate small goals along the way that will keep you headed in the right direction. As you achieve these goals you are going to start believing in yourself more and more, and you will realise that even the highest of goals are achievable!

Stop trying to be perfect

If one of your goals is to be perfect, scratch it now! We are all human, and not a single one of us is perfect. Putting too much focus on being perfect and setting goals that are unachievable will only result in exhaustion and self-hurt. Try to set your goals so they are attainable but don’t be afraid to fail - get back up and keep pushing! Embrace your flaws and acknowledge that they are what makes you, you - and you will be one step closer to reaching your full potential.

Say goodbye to stress

Easier said than done. Taking a step back from stress in life can go a long way. Try not to sweat the small things and maintain an optimistic outlook on life. Now, there is good stress and bad stress, so the key is to differentiate between the two. Good stress should be from things that you really care about, that are motivating you, and fuelling your drive. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and accepting new challenges is going to put a little stress on you but it should add to your drive to succeed, not cripple it! If you are being crippled by stress and are really struggling, that’s usually a sign of bad stress and you should distance yourself from whatever, (or whoever), is causing it.

Take responsibility for your actions and learn from your past

Taking account of your actions will not only keep you humble, but it gives you the opportunity to reflect on how you got to a negative outcome. Analysing the path you took and realising where you made a mistake can help you to decide how to move forward, and how to never make the mistake again. But remember not to dwell too much on the past, learn from it and let it make you stronger.

Now it’s time to stop looking at the glass as half empty and start looking at it as half full! There are so many opportunities out there waiting for you to reach out and grab them. Don’t let insecurities or obstacles hold you back and remember - you were made for greatness!
